Resources including education grants for a newly single mother, so I can go back to school, possible free counselling for me going through a rough divorce... just various things like that?

Today more and more women not only play the role of house-maker and child raiser, but they are also working full time jobs and major contributors to the family income.
This means that obtaining a college degree could make a difference between a low paying job and a higher paying career. After all if you have to work along with all the other duties normally handled by the women of the house, then you might as well have the highest paying job you can qualify for.
Higher paying jobs normally equate to having a degree, so scholarships for women could play a major role in some being able to go to college.

Then, use the HESC’s Repayment Estimator calculator at www.hesc.com to figure out which payment plan will work best for you.
With a standard repayment plan, you’ll make a fixed payment each month of however much is required to pay off
